Bernard Doherty

 

Bernard Doherty is a final year PhD candidate researching the social history of early forms of Christianity, Judaism and indigenous religion in Roman and Byzantine Asia Minor (modern Turkey), focusing particularly on the urban-rural continuum and the impact of geographical and socio-political factors on the survival of religious minorities. In addition to his PhD research Bernard has a key interest in the history of the peoples of the Indian subcontinent from the pre-Vedic periods until the arrival of the Mughals, and in the transmission and expansion of religions along the Silk Road. Bernard was jointly awarded the inaugural Macquarie Tyndale Fellowship in 2009 to undertake detailed research in Cambridge U.K.
